With the start of the new school year less than a week away, the final countdown is on. One of the best ways to prepare for the upcoming academic year is to learn how to be better organized, so if you’ve always struggled with getting all your materials sorted correctly, follow these organization tips!
Have Everything Ready
The first of our organization tips might sound like common sense. But having everything ready when you need it can cut down on frustration and wasted time. Do you have a book report that’s a big part of your grade? Make sure you know where your printer paper is! You should also strive to keep all of your other supplies in predictable locations where they’re easy to find: pens, pencils, highlighters binders – basically, all of your finds from back to school shopping. Don’t forget about your computer, too! A smoothly running computer can keep you on track and keep you from tearing your hair out. Just remember to save early and often! You hate losing progress in a video game, so why lose progress on your essay homework?
Do You Need Extras?
Our next organization tip has to do with extras. Having plenty of additional resources and supplies never hurt. But sometimes, especially once you get into the higher grades, your classes will require more supplies than you might expect. Familiarize yourself with the course syllabus – not only will this help you learn how to read one in college, but you’ll also be better prepared if an assignment asks for a particular piece of software or a book that isn’t already provided.
Use Calendars and Planners
You don’t always need to have a physical wall calendar or day planner. With how commonplace phones, tablets, and laptops are in today’s learning environment, a digital calendar is never hard to find. In fact, your school handbook will likely double as a planner, so that you can keep track of assignment due dates, project deadlines, field trips, special events (like dances or sports events), and holidays and breaks from school. If you can create a comprehensive enough schedule, you’ll be able to avoid the stress and regrets of procrastination and desperate all-nighters. The real power of these organization tips is to make everything more manageable.
